Every time I see a newborn, I am in awe. Their perfection is perfect. There is really no other way to describe it. And they change so quickly during the first three months of life. You just can't even ever believe that your baby was ever this little.

It was not that long ago that I photographed Katrin pregnant. Thanks for having me over and capturing this moment in your lives. I hope the photos will help you remember this time.

Snakes, bees, and a bear

If you are 3 feet or shorter, Chautauqua was the place to be tonight for the concert release of Jeff Kagan's second CD in Boulder. Leaning against the stage, the kids raised their arms and wiggled their hips during the 70 minute concert. Animals danced, buzzed, and slithered on stage while Jeff sang about the environment to hundreds of excited kids.

Alli at Bird Dog Press had me over to her gorgeous studio in Lyons, Colorado for a lifestyle shoot. The photos will be used in her marketing material. The colors in the studio, her dog's amazing personality, alli's designs sprinkled throughout the studio, and of course the letterpress all lent themselves to a really awesome shoot.

A Growing Family

I love the unpredictability kids bring to our lives. We try to calculate their moods, what they want, or how they will act and inevitability it is not what we expected. This is the beauty of kids because they teach us to live in the moment and accept it. Little Lucy was unpredictable during her mom's maternity session but the images created were authentic to this family's life at this moment.

I can't wait to meet this new little bean in September. Keep me posted!

So cute and so much trouble just like my toddler. It is such a good thing puppies and toddlers are so cute or else you might not put up with their shenanigans. Their cuteness does make them pretty irresistible.

Four years ago, Casey and I got married at the Blueberry Hill Inn in Vermont. The day was perfect - blue skies, family, friends, beautiful flowers, and delicious food. Geoff Hanson was our photographer and documented the day from getting ready to cutting the rug.

I love my wedding photos and the images bring us back to the day that we started our live together. This is one of the many reasons why I love photographing weddings to preserve the day forever. It all goes by in a flash and it is so wonderful to have all the big and small moments captured to visit again.

What a gorgeous day for Jenna and Peter's wedding. The ceremony and reception were both held at the Phipps Tennis Pavilion in Denver. With three brothers on the bride's side and 5 brothers and one sister on the groom's, there was a big wedding party which equals fun photos.

I had a fabulous second photographer, Scott Cejka, for the evening too. Thanks for your help.

Have a fabulous honeymoon where ever you end up! Peter is surprising Jenna on their honeymoon destination which I think is so sweet.

This ring bearer thought you actually carrier a bell so that is what he did. Too cute.

Stacey Potter, a beautiful mom and an amazing photographer, is expecting a little girl at the end of August. 34 weeks pregnant, she hiked around Chautauqua this evening with her family while I captured her family at this moment. Needless to say, I was impressed.

Back in April, Stacey did my maternity photos and I loved them. I hope she cherishes her images as much as we do.

A cozy summer wedding was the feeling Megan and Trevor wanted for their June wedding. These two have know each other for 14 years and they still giggle like they just met two weeks ago. Part of their wedding vows was to make each other laugh every day. I love that!

Every detail from the guest gifts of homemade jams to the six pence placed inside Megan's shoes to their post-ceremony scooter ride in the rain was exactly what they wanted minus the rain. However, the rain stopped and we were able to walk in the open space to take some beautiful portraits of the bride and groom against the flatirons.

A beautiful Greek Orthodox church, a Rolls-Royce, the Boulder Theater, old friends, and family are the perfect ingredients for a gorgeous wedding. Angela and Brendan who live in Boston got married at St.Peter and Paul and Brendan's father performed the ceremony. Angela who grew up in Boulder chose a Boulder landmark, the Boulder Theater, to have the reception. Delicious food and lots of dancing created a fabulous and memorable celebration.

Deciding what is for dinner is a bit easier with veggie garden in my backyard. Twenty feet from my back deck, we have planted spinach, cucumbers, rhubarb, herbs, raspberries, delicata squash, etc... There is so much satisfaction to watch the spinach grow and then saute it with olive oil and garlic. I am also in love with our poppies right now too. Could not resist capturing them in full bloom.

Here is an amazing photo opportunity in Boulder. Massimo Bassano returns to Boulder this summer! Massimo is one of Italy's top photojournalists – he was just awarded first and second place for "Best Travel Cover," by the Italian Conference of Editors & Journalists. Massimo shares with us how photographers can capture that exceptional photo when they become part of the scene they are photographing rather than just watching them through a lens.

The first two days are for those who want more technical knowledge about their camera, software/computer and latest equipment. The following five-day workshop is "shooting on-site" in and around Boulder. Each day becomes a photographic adventure. Capturing the morning light and coolness of the day, we shoot together and independently. Happy Mother's Day

Happy mother's day! I hope all moms were spoiled rotten by their families. We cooked a delicious breakfast and our two year old actually slept in until 7:30am. This is an amazing feat since she usually whispers our names at 5:30am.

I wanted to thank everyone who sent me an email about for the mother's day portrait session contest. It was so special to read all the intimate stories about the mom in your life. Congratulations to Rachel, Ian, and Sabine who will receive the portrait session in June. I often have promotions posted on my blog so please stay in touch.

I have stayed at home with my daughter for a year and a half. That's about a year longer than I planned to. I gave up a lot in my life, as many moms do - work, social life, even some travel to see family - to care for our daughter after we found out she has Cystic Fibrosis. We have been in the hospital twice with her and I have done endless research to keep her healthy (vitamin and food supplements to correct whatever is wrong at the moment as well as researching deficiencies created by many of the meds we’ve had to give her) and been mostly successful! Due to these efforts, Sabine (my daughter, 18 mos old) has not been in the hospital for any reason since last August and has only been sick a few times this winter. This may have also been due in part to lack of travel. As our family traveled to us last year, this was the first winter holiday season we were just three – no extended family. Sabine’s CF has meant we do not travel to see our family as much, so I spend a lot of time taking video and photos of her to send them. I would love to be able to send out professional photos to the great grannies and grandparents, as well as to my seven siblings and my husband’s two siblings. Family means a lot to us, though they are very far away

Little May

Growing like a weed already, this little one changed so much in just two weeks. During the first photo session, she slept through most of it so I came back two weeks later to find her alert, curious, and more aware of her environment. May's older brother, Truman, is now 18 months and I have been photographing him since he was 10 days old. Tomorrow I am spending time with Truman at a park if the rain will finally disappear, and I can't wait to see how much he has changed.

Being the photographer in my family, I am hardly ever in any photos. So it was a treat to have Stacey Potter make some beautiful photos of my expanding family. I knew down the road I would regret not documenting my 2nd pregnancy. At 36 weeks pregnant, we met in downtown Boulder hoping the rain would not stop the session. We lucked out.

In July, I am going to document Stacey's pregnancy as well. Looking forward to it and I am already dreaming up how to photograph her and her family.

I believe every mom should be spoiled and have their family professionally photographed to create heirloom images to be passed down from one generation to the next. Family vacation

Before the economy took a huge dive, we planned a trip to Todos Santos in Baja with two other families. Six adults and four toddlers loaded up and ventured south for some time at the beach. Vacations are a little different with kids. Not as much time at the beach reading, but I was able to finish one book.

Every Sunday morning in my pjs, I pick up my Sunday New York Times in my driveway. Hot tea in my favorite blue mug, I sit down find the Style section and read the Modern Love column. This past Sunday's was a teary one, a wonderful story about marriage, love, friendship, and commitment.

Reflecting on the past 365 days, I am amazed at all that happened. My daughter, Maddie, was just walking at the start of 2008 and now she runs circles around me while singing happy birthday to her babies. After living in Colorado for five years, I finally made it to a Red Rocks concert to see My Morning Jacket. I traveled to Costa Rica, Santa Fe, Alaska, New Hampshire, Ohio, and West Virginia. On my birthday, I had knee surgery which was really the worse birthday present ever. And I am still recovering from it. Spent Thanksgiving with my husband and Maddie skiing at Wolf Creek. I had hoped to get her on skis but she was content doing puzzles and eating dried blueberries in the lodge. Not even the promise of a lollipop could entice this two year old onto the slopes. Christmas was celebrated with my mom and brother who are so loved by Maddie. Uncle Jamie is always a favorite due to his willingness to be transformed in a horse at any given moment. New Year's Eve was quiet at our house but the food, lobster risotto with beef tenderloin and an avocado tomato salad, was delicious. Rang in the New Year with our neighbors playing Wii.

this was the best way to spend my sunday morning - outside photographing a seven year old. having a love of hannah montana and eloise, she could strike a pose at a drop of a dime. jumping, running, laughing, ellie was busy and was willing to try just about anything.

It was another gorgeous fall day in boulder and Truman was so handsome in his fall outfit. I have been photographing this little guy since he was 10 days old. Now he is 14 months. During the session, Truman would bust out a loud contagious laugh. It was one of the cutest things.

i love photographing pregnant women in the fall because it reminds me of my own pregnancy.
my daughter will be two in a couple of weeks and i really can't believe how fast the time has flown by. her childhood has been very well documented up until a few weeks ago. now when i go to take her picture she says "no cheese mama, no cheese." i have to bribe her with a cookie and her reply is "two, two cookies" and then she smiles. the cookie only works sometimes.

last week was just the perfect fall weekend. heather looked so beautiful and it was so much fun to capture her at this time in her life. i look forward to meeting your soon in a the weeks to come.

In early October, I had the great opportunity to work again with the Children's Museum of Denver at one of their annual fundraising events, Say Cheese. Professional photographers donate their time and their art to create family portraits. All the proceeds from the session and prints go the the museum. It is an annual event in Denver and one not to be missed.

M.I.L.K - photo contest

The history behind M.I.L.K is in 1999,British publisher Hodder Headline (now Hachette Livre) held a global photographic competition called M.I.L.K. (Moments of Intimacy, Laughter and Kinship). Inspired by the 1950s landmark photographic exhibition, 'The Family of Man', M.I.L.K. began as an epic global search to find unique and geographically diverse images on the themes of friendship, family and love. It was not only the richest in photographic history, but also one of the most significant, drawing participation from 17,000 professional and amateur photographers in 164 countries. In total over 40,000 images were received by M.I.L.K., including at least four Pulitzer Prize winners. The 300 winning images were chosen by the Chief Judge, Magnum photographer Elliott Erwitt, and were the basis for three books entitled Family, Friendship and Love and an international touring exhibition launched at New York's Grand Central Terminal in 2001.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the original M.I.L.K. competition, M.I.L.K. Licensing (now a subsidiary of PQ Blackwell), again in association with Elliott Erwitt, is conducting a new competition founded on the themes of friends, families, lovers and laughter to create a new collection of 150 images.

I love Elliott Erwitt's images. In my opinion, making someone laugh and smile is a great talent. If you are a dog lover, you will really appreciate his work. He is a master of juxtaposition.

megan and trevor have know each other for 8 years. they grew up together in boulder and have deep roots here. the importance of family, friends, and tradition will shine through at their wedding next june. they will be getting married at grace lutheran church where trevor's grandparents met and will have the reception at the bride's home where she grew up.

for the engagement session, we visited places that had meaning for them - foothills elementary school, their new home, lily (the cutie jack russell), and the field where trevor proposed. to see a slideshow of our afternoon, click HERE.

the last few days of summer

its time to pack up my summer whites and start shopping for fall sweaters. this weekend marks the end of summer. no more lazy Sunday afternoons at the pool watching my daughter become a water warrior. she also discovered watermelon, a messy event, but she could eat slice after slice. i think she might have loved eating it because we almost always went swimming afterwards to clean up.

something happens when you become a parent and time goes by faster than ever. the days can sometimes be very long but the months are short. sorting through my daughter's photos from the past year, i just can't believe she was ever as small as jack. now she tells me want she wants with words. cookie is a word i hear a lot.

at seven weeks, jack is the sweetest little guy. patient, happy, and wide eyed, he stayed awake for an hour and half. i think the black box and flashes of light transfixed him.

aspen in the summer

aspen in the summer is gorgeous. dani and kris are so lucky to live in such a place and to have their september wedding in the mountains. during their engagement session we took a trip up to the maroon bells which were stunning and the wildflowers were still in bloom. all of their guests are in for such a treat and a visit to the bells in the fall with the golden aspens is a must.

our afternoon started at their wedding location, the aspen meadows resort. the day ended with wine at the j bar at the historic hotel jermone. it was an amazing afternoon/evening.

35 weeks

One of Meredith's baby shower gifts was me. Her dear friend gave her a maternity and newborn session as a gift because she did not document her own pregnancy and wish she had. While you are pregnant, you feel it will never end. But after the birth, you can barely remember what you looked like pregnant. During my own pregnancy, I photographed myself every few weeks and I cherish all those photos. Even though at times I did not feel so pretty, I still documented the change and I am so happy I did.

I love Meredith's expression in the last image. Authentic and real.

GAS • Saturday July 26th

GAS stands for Garden Art Show. It is one the best things to do in the summer and should not be missed. This will be my fourth year donating and my photo is from a recent trip back to Vermont on an early foggy morning. Usually, I walk home with too much art which is not a bad thing. However, I still need to hang what I bought last summer.

Founded in 2002, The Garden Art Show is an annual silent auction benefiting local charities in Boulder County, Colorado. Thanks to generous donations by brilliant local artists (from full-time professionals to inspired amateurs and undiscovered newcomers), all proceeds from sales of the art go to children's art and nature causes. In its first five years, the GAS has raised over $9,000, entertained hundreds of good people, put lots of great art in worthy homes, and decimated local supplies for jambalaya and mojitos.

I met Joyce last week and we had so much fun during her maternity session. She was open and willing to try anything during the session even traipsing in a field with a ton of mosquitoes. A glowing mom-to-be and so excited with the soon arrival of her son, we documented this last phase of pregnancy before moving into motherhood.

7am at Coot Lake. Yup, I was there at 6:45am looking at the light and scouting the perfect locations to photograph this family of three. The lake was still, the light was beautiful and Max was full of smiles.

The first time I photographed Max he was only four months old and he walks, claps, talks, and has a small cheerio addiction.

my daughter is a little wild and you might be able to tell by her crazy hair. last friday was the first time she allowed me to put pig tails in and i could not resist to snap a few photos.

as busy working parents, it is hard to catch up with friends. last friday we hit the town of louisville with lily who was dressed in polka dots. so sweet. tonight after dinner we had a tag game with our best friend and neighbor, hayden. he is the little guy in the mix match crocs! just love it.

On May 31, 2008 Chrissy and Derek said "I do" at 10,000 feet in Telluride, Colorado. Guests traveled by gondola to arrive to the ceremony which overlooked the town . Blue sky, sunshine, and snow capped mountains, I don't think it gets much better than that.

Amy of Flirt traveled from Denver with all the flowers which were gorgeous. She also designed the programs, menus, invitations for the day. Everything could not have been more beautiful.

The reception was at a delicious Italian restaurant, La Piazza, in the Mountain Village. Wine, food, laughing, tears, and dancing were all found during the reception. It truly was the perfect day and to see the slide show, click HERE.

Here is my favorite little guy, Truman. I first met him when he was only 10 days new and the little peanut melted my heart. Nine months old and crawling, Truman is on his way to mischief. I can't wait to see what he will be doing in three months.

Last weekend, Anne and Sasha were married at Montview in Denver, Colorado. After a week of rain and cold, their wedding day was perfectly clear and warm. It was the perfect day. After the ceremony, everyone was invited to celebrate at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, a fabulous place for a wedding reception.

I had a fabulous second photographer, Christina Kiffney, for the wedding. She was terrific and assisted me in capturing the day.

There was one more fabulous part of the day, the flowers. Stephanie from Euphorbia created beautiful bouquets and arrangements. The smell of the lilies in Anne's bouquet filled the room. Is there anything better?

For my birthday, my mom gave me the book, A Camera, two Kids, and a Camel: My Journey in Photographs by Annie Griffiths Belt. It is Annie's story of how she balanced motherhood and a thrieving career as a National Geographic photographer traveling the world. I am reading it and loving it.

As a mother, it is important to remind myself I don't have to give up my own dreams, wants, and needs to be a good parent. Finding a balance is the key which is not always easy especially when she wake up at 5 am screaming and fussing like today. Lots of coffee and tea is usually how I scramble the the day right now.

in march, kim asked me to document her pregnancy. all smiles throughout the entire session, kim loved pregnancy and could not wait to meet her little girl. her maternity photos can be seen here.

three weeks later, sydney arrived with her eyes open and ready to absorb the world. and three weeks later, kim asked me back to photograph the start of their new family. a baby changes so much in the first year so it is special to have photos to remember and reflect on when you have a moment. as parents we know those moments are far and few between but they are perfect when you get them.

if you have ever wondered about how to break into the magazine world, there is a conference in boulder this weekend to help you figure out how. the 2008 photography in magazine conference is bringing in photographers and photo editors to speak specifically on shooting for magazines.

as a photo editor at backpacker magazine, i have been invited to speak about the how the decisions get made to choose which photographers are chosen to shoot a feature and why. brad kaminski, the photo editor at velo news and inside triathlon, will also be speaking with me about how his magazines make their photographic decisions.

there are a lot of great speakers, corey rich from aurora stock agency, beth wald, outside magazine, and national geographic to name a few.

this is a great opportunity to meet with photo editors to establish a relationship. everyone wants to work with people who they like and enjoy so you could start your new relationship in boulder.

over the weekend, i am planning on attending most of the lectures and i will post tips i learn from conference for you.

here is one tip to start your weekend off.

* do your research. get a subscription to any magazine you are interested in shooting and study it for before calling the photo editor. be familiar with the front and back of the book as well as the features.

a dear friend emailed this to me and it made me cry.

All my babies are gone now. I say this not in sorrow, but in disbelief.

I take great satisfaction in what I have today: three almost-adults, two taller than I am, one closing in fast. Three people who read the same books I do and have learned not to be afraid of disagreeing with me in their opinion of them, who sometimes tell vulgar jokes that make me laugh until I choke and cry, who need razor blades and shower gel and privacy, who want to keep their doors closed more than I like.

Who, miraculously, go to the bathroom, zip up their jackets and move food from plate to mouth all by themselves.

Like the trick soap I bought for the bathroom with a rubber ducky at its center, the baby is buried deep within each, barely discernible except through the unreliable haze of the past.

Everything in all the books I once pored over is finished for me now.

Penelope Leach, T. Berry Brazelton, Dr. Spock. The ones on sibling rivalry and sleeping through the night and early-childhood education - all grown obsolete. Along with Goodnight Moon and Where the Wild Things Are, they are battered, spotted, well used. But I suspect that if you flipped the pages dust would rise like memories. What those books taught me, finally, and what the women on the playground taught me, and the well-meaning relations - what they taught me, was that they couldn't really teach me very much at all.

Raising children is presented at first as a true-false test, then becomes multiple choice, until finally, far along, you realize that it is an endless essay.

No one knows anything. One child responds well to positive reinforcement, another can be managed only with a stern voice and a timeout. One child is toilet trained at 3, his sibling at 2.

When my first child was born, parents were told to put baby to bed on his belly so that he would not choke on his own spit-up. By the time my last arrived, babies were put down on their backs because of research on sudden infant death syndrome. To a new parent, this ever-shifting certainty is terrifying, and then soothing.

Eventually you must learn to trust yourself. Eventually the research will follow. I remember 15 years ago poring over one of Dr. Brazelton's wonderful books on child development, in which he describes three different sorts of infants: average, quiet, and active. I was looking for a sub-quiet codicil for an 18-month old who did not walk. Was there something wrong with his fat little legs? Was there something wrong with his tiny little mind? Was he developmentally delayed, physically challenged? Was I insane? Last year he

went to China . Next year he goes to college. He can talk just fine. He can walk, too.

Every part of raising children is humbling. Believe me, mistakes were made. They have all been enshrined in the 'Remember-When-Mom-Did' Hall of Fame. The outbursts, the temper tantrums, the bad language - mine, not theirs. The times the baby fell off the bed.

The times I arrived late for preschool pickup. The nightmare sleepover. The horrible summer camp. The day when the youngest came barreling out of the classroom with a 98 on her geography test, and I responded, "What did you get wrong?" (She insisted I include that here.) The time I ordered food at the McDonald's drive-through speaker and then drove away without picking it up from the window. (They all insisted I include that.) I did not allow them to watch the Simpsons for the first two seasons. What was I thinking?

But the biggest mistake I made is the one that most of us make while doing this. I did not live in the moment enough. This is particularly clear now that the moment is gone, captured only in photographs. There is one picture of the three of them, sitting in the grass on a quilt in the shadow of the swing set on a summer day, ages 6, 4 and 1. And I wish I could remember what we ate, and what we talked about, and how they sounded, and how they looked

when they slept that night. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book, bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less.

Even today I'm not sure what worked and what didn't, what was me and what was simply life. When they were very small, I suppose I thought someday they would become who they were because of what I'd done. Now I suspect they simply grew into their true selves because they demanded in a thousand ways that I back off and let them be. The books said to be relaxed and I was often tense, matter-of-fact and I was sometimes over the top. And look how

it all turned out. I wound up with the three people I like best in the

world, who have done more than anyone to excavate my essential humanity. That's what the books never told me. I was bound and determined to learn from the experts.

It just took me a while to figure out who the experts were.

colors of costa rica

last week we took our first international family vacation to costa rica. along with two other families, we rented a house in ojochal just south of dominical. six adults and four kids toured around the beaches and jungles in and around ojochal. as the sun was setting margaritas were drank. there was plenty of fresh fish and the tastiest avocados ever were eaten daily.

we already have our next trip planned. can't wait to return.

i just returned from my first family vacation to costa rica with my husband and sixteen month old daughter. during our 10 day visit, we created many memories and shared many experiences with dear friends that i will cherish. in a few days i will post photos from our trip so stay tuned.

i believe it is the relationships we create in our lives that make our lives rich and meaningful. before i left for costa rica, i had the opportunity to photograph a wonderful relationship that has been going strong for 14 years between theodore and margaret. sadly, theodore's health is declining so we visited some his favorites spots to walk, run, and explore. these photos will preserve their relationship forever.

i just returned to the lower 48 after a six day trip in alaska, and i had a lot of firsts on my trip.

first time on a snowmobile and rode 205 miles in three days.
first time eating moose sausage.

i thought i would share some of my photos from the location lighting class. we photographed at four locations - the scottish rite temple, the new mexico state penitentiary, los luceros, and a location of my choice, blake's lotaburger.

each portrait was created using a one or two light setup keeping it easy to travel to a location without an assistant. i used a mix of extra small and medium size soft boxes, strip lights, hard lights with grids, cinafoil, and bare bulb depending. choosing the type of light was dependent on the feeling and style i wanted evoke in the portrait. if you have any lighting questions, i would be happy to try and answer them. just email me a comment and i will respond.

I just got home after taking a location portrait lighting class at the Santa Fe Workshops with Josh Sanseri. An amazing week learning and practicing location lighting skills. Once I digest the week, I will post some of the tips.

Before the workshop started, I made some portraits of my friends' children. This is the second time I have photographed them all and I love to document the changes. Check out Marin's purple 4 inch heels! She just got them and wanted to get her photo taken wearing them. Almost four years old and she can walk better in heels than me.

Chrissy & Derek are getting married in Telluride this May at the top of chair 7. Their first vacation together was to Telluride, and they wanted to shared this amazing place with friends and family. Telluride is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado, and if you have never been, I would highly recommend a summer road trip. You will not regret it.

For the engagement session, we incorporated a few things they love - the outdoors, wine, and their dog, Jake. Despite fighting a little bit of wind on Saturday, we traipsed around Denver to tell their story. The session ended at Corridor 44, an amazing champagne bar, for a glass of wine. Thanks to Corridor 44 for allowing us photograph in the bar!

It is going to be a beautiful wedding and the views will be breathtaking. Amy Smith of Flirt is their Denver wedding cordinator helping them create their perfect day! I can't wait to see it all.

Listening to NPR on my drive to work, I found out who St.Valentine is so I thought I would share.

Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated on February 14. In North America and Europe, it is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other by sending Valentine's cards, presenting flowers, or offering confectionery. The holiday is named after two early Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.

My favorite part of the day is an excuse to eat a lot of dark chocolate.

Peter Brown's photographs are a stark, elegant, and subtle examination of the Western landscape. He and writer Kent Haruf, won the 2005 Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Prize for the project High Plains.

Kent Haruf has paired Peter's photos with text in the book West of Last Chance (W.W. Norton & Company). Kent Haruf is the author of the New York Times best-selling novel, Plainsong, whose stage adaptation by Eric Schmiedl will have its world premiere at the Denver Center Theatre January 25th through February 25th. Examples of Peter’s photos and text from the book will be displayed in the lobby of the theater during the run of the performances. There will also be a book signing of West of Last Chance at The Tattered Cover in LoDo March 7th.

While I was working at the Center for Documentary Studies, I had the opportunity to take a 4x5 workshop from Peter. Making photographs with a 4x5 camera forces you to slow down, look, and observe. There is no snap shot. I appreciated Peter sharing his thoughts and methods during the workshop.

On February 2, his work will be on display a the Sandy Carson Gallery in Denver. I am looking forward to saying hi to Peter again on Saturday.

hanger t1 • boulder municipal airport

Comtemporary5 Boulder has brought together four artists in hanger t1 at the Boulder Municipal Airport. Despites 90mph winds on Friday night, the show opened with more than 150 guests and 10% of all proceeds from opening night were donated to BMoCA. The space reminded me of Site Santa Fe and PS 1- two of my favorite places to see art.

My favorite work was by Antti Keitila. His methodology is to first paint a canvas with highly reflective enamel paint and reflects the subject onto his canvas and takes a pictures of the reflection.

The show is only up for four days so tomorrow is your last day. It is definitely worth a visit.

Here is George. He turned one in November and is now exploring the world walking. George's parents and I met in birthing class at Becoming Mothers so I have known him for while now.

In the spring, I first photographed George at around 6 months old. It is wonderful to see and document the changes as the months go by. The little ones change so quickly!

I love this ad on many levels. I love it because as a working mom my life often looks and feels like this and it makes me feel a bit more normal. As an environmental portrait of Tina Fey, it is initmate, smart, funny, and ironic just like her writing. In print, the other element to this ad is Tina Fey's perfect day. I have seen the ad a dozen times and I read her perfect day over and over. It always makes me think what is my perfect day.

So here it is.

7am wake up, have a cup of coffee, and spend time in bed with Madeleine reading

8:30am go for a long run on a trail with our dog, Ginger

11am shower

12pm have lunch with dear old friends

1:30 take a walk to the park with Madeleine with my camera

3:oo pm take a nap

4:30pm get a massage

6pm eat a healthy dinner and drink good wine with my family

7pm to to a movie

9:30pm read my book

10pm lights out and sleep until 7am.

i love new york city. i was born there and have a lot of wonderful memories as a kid coming in on the train from westchester to explore the streets with my family. two of my favorite things to do in nyc are shoe shopping and eating magnolia cupcakes.

this june (26th-29th), i am planning a trip to nyc for family, newborn and maternity portrait sessions. the first three people to reserve a session will receive a special gift.

there is a new photography show opening up at reed photo gallery in denver tonight.

featured in the january photojournalism show are four award winning photographic artists, all known for their humanistic documentary and straight documentary style; all are colorado residents.
Included in the show are: Ken Papaleo, Tyler Stableford, Rich Durnan, and Scott Taketa.
